Costing version Last activation

Hi experts,

Does anyone know why is it necessary (if so) to activate a costing version?

This costing version, despite not being active itself, contains a set of active prices that are already being used so I'm struggling to understand the point of activating the costing version itself.

You can check the documentation about costing version Costing versions overview - Supply Chain Management | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn, it mentions that a costing version can serve one or more purposes, depending on the data that the costing version contains. The primary purpose of a costing version is to contain cost records about items, cost categories, and calculation formulas for indirect costs. A costing version can contain a set of standard cost records or a set of planned cost records that are based on the costing type that is assigned to the costing version.
And a costing version usually represents a different costing method, and activating it applies the costing method associated with it in the system. Additionally, you may need to activate a costing version when there are changes to the cost structure or pricing that need to take effect from a specific date. Although the costing version itself is not valid, activating the costing version is important for the system to apply its specific costing rules during transaction recording and reporting.
