Copy paste from Excel 2016 into NAV classic issues

Hi All,

Encountering an unusual issue when pasting data from excel 2016 (Office 365) into NAV classic. When a cells contents is pasted, an extra 5 or so spaces are added onto the end of the data and this is quite of a bit of nuisance as we need to perform lookups using this data, but need to delete these spaces every single time or the search wont work.

I was advised that NAV Classic 'didnt' recognise the cell format from excel and thus added in these spaces to make up for this. However, all previous version of excel seem to copy and paste fine with no issue. Any fix for this? (Without touching classic, as this software has never needed any extra configurations for about 10 year... ie dont reinvent the wheel if it works fine.

Thanks,

What happens if you paste your data from Excel to notepad? Do you have the same spaces there?

It pastes and goes straight into a new line, if I click back onto the line I pasted there are no spaces at the end (but goes onto the next line as just mentioned).

If I paste from Word to notepad this does not move on to a new line,

    Thanks

I've encountered some problems in the past when copying data from Dynamics NAV to Excel and vice versa. I've pasted the data into Notepad++ and checked the button to show all characters (you can use any other text Editor that's capable of this function). I found that there were escape characters or Carriage Return and Line Feed Markups in the lines from the customer.

Back then it was a problem of a user pasting words from Microsoft Word or Excel into Dynamics NAV - with all those "hidden" characters in the data.

To solve the problem I wrote a function to check the user input in the OnValidate()-Trigger in the specific fields.
    Maybe this can help you.

    Hi.

As you mentioned, it is going to new line in notepad, it clearly indicates that, you have special character at the end of this cell.

You can check the same data in previous version of excel and you would see the same result.

To overcome this, you can find the new line character in excel and replace with no value. This should resolve your problem. or you go with some customization to overcome this situation.

    Hope this helps you.

Thanks Both, I am off for a week unfortunately so Ill be able to get back to you after then, these answers look very promising as I identified the special characters in notepad++ with the show all button. Will try these fixes as soon as im back and approve these answers so thank you for your time and very, very much appreciated!

try to save the excel document in an older excel format e.g. excel 2003. then try again.
