Recently me and other users in my organisation have noticed outlook/word crashing and this is due to the dynamics app for outlook.
Has anyone noticed this recently? How do i find out which version of the dynamics app for outlook i am on and how to update it if it needs be?

Dynamics 365 App for Outlook is another UCI app you can find under Settings - My Apps. There is no version conflicts or anything. Also the continuous updates/delivery to our online orgs will keep it updated.
You should try to configure your mailbox/app in another environment & validate the crash reason. Do you have lot of assets/artifacts added to AFO UCI app?
You can open a ticket with MS support to analyze the telemetry data & crash analysis.
