Test Company with Production Data

With on-prem databases, administrators have the benefit of refreshing production databases over the test company and running a few scripts.  While I know you can create a new test company in D365BC, I don't see a straightforward way to mirror the data as setup in production.

Are we stuck using configuration packages and the data migration spreadsheet, or is there a more elegant solution to refresh a test company from production data?

    Hello Kieran,

Are you still having an issue with trying to mirror data from Production to Test?

If so, are you still looking to do this with the On-Prem version of Business Central?

    Regards,

    Jay

I received confirmation from Microsoft that this is a bug that gets corrected in the October release.  If you reload the web browser, you will likely see that the copy company has been created, but lacks any data from the host company.

Thanks for the quick response, folks! The good news is that there is a Company Copy utility.  The bad news is that it crashes each runtime.

    1. Navigate to Companies.
    2. Select the desired origin company.
    3. Select Copy.

    4. Provide a name for the destination company and select OK.

    5. Wait approximately 30 seconds.

    6. Watch D365BC crash.

I made sure that the company from which I ran this utility was not the origin company.  I suspect there are records in use somewhere, but I'll create a support ticket.

    Stay tuned!

    Hi,
Either you need to copy data from setup tables to your test company using some code or Configuration Packages.

    Thanks

Actually no, the only supported way is using RapidStart Packages.
