Extend the Address entity with a ISO country code field

Hi All,

I have read a few articles about the address entity but was unfortunately not able to find the answer.

We have the following scenario:

Because the country name field within the Address entity is messing up reporting we would like to align this.

The idea would be to:

- Create a new Custom entity called Country

- Create a new custom field on the Address entity which will be of type Lookup to the newly created entity Country.

Somehow I am not able to create a field on the Address entity of type Lookup to create this reference.

Am I maybe missing one of the limitations that I am not aware of ?

Please advise

Jeroen

    Hi Jeroen Scheper,

You cannot create custom fields or relationships on the address entity, and you will not want to once you know how the entity works. The address entity is actually one of the more complicated entities behind the scenes. For more on this topic read this article.

A better idea is to modify your report so that the country name field does not influence it.

    Thank you for your reply.

But how what you make sure that countries are defined in a unique way ?

    - using external tools to enforce a country dropdown?

    - integrate this with an ERP (AX) that does require the dropdown (validation of addresses)

Ideally I do not like to go for the custom route.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi Jeroen Scheper,

My usual method of solving this problem is to create a custom country entity, and then display the country records using either a Lookup field or a Sub-Grid depending on how I want to display the data. For the integration with Dynamics AX, I would use SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
