registering IoT device in customer asset

Posted on by 5

Hello

I get this error "A record that has the attribute values Device ID already exists."

when I try to create a new customer asset and connect to a device I already have in my device list.

P.S. I am not typing the deviceID. It comes automatically, when I select the device from the Connected device list.

Tried to reproduce it, but I can't. Have created a new device on IoT Hub and did an "Import Devices" from the customer asset list. A new asset shows up, connected to a device, both using the name from IOTH. I have modified the asset records several times, no issues saving the record.

Have you checked if there is an asset that has the same device ID? In that case I get the same error message, but the way you describe your setup there shouldn't be 2 assets with the same device.

    Hi Alexander

I think I understood the process. The IPD field service consider all IoT device as assets. When I import my IoT devices from back end, the Field service automatically creates their asset. So, when I try to create a new asset and connect to 1 (one) IoT device, the system copy this deviceID, and place ii in the DeviceID field. The first attempt to save works.; however, if you open the asset again and try to save with some modification, the errors comes. P.S., I am making a lot of tests, sometimes it works without error. I am trying to figure out why.

What's your relationship between asset and device? 1 asset connected to 1 device? Or 1 asset to n devices?

I have just created 2 assets and 2 devices and successfully connected 1 asset to n devices and 1 device to n assets - all without problems. I used the "connect device" button which creates a connection of type "Connected IoT Device". Have not touched the deviceID on the asset, this is only utilized if you skip the device and click "Register Devices" directly on the asset.
