AX 2012 - Change Custom Dimension to Standard Dimension

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi there,

I am in the process of upgrade from AX 4.0 to AX 2012.

AX 4.0 Financial Dimensions (Department, Cost Centre and Purpose) came to AX 2012 as "Custom Dimension"

How we can change it to Standard Dimension?

Thanks in Advance,

Loganathan S

The default ugrade code from AX2012 does not support this scenario. We spend some time with Microsoft to check on this request on an earlier update. You will need to write the upgrade code yourself.

Filling in the tables involved is doable, updating default dimensions is also possible (you might use code examples from the DIXF for this), but updating historical transactions will be more complex. You might want to contact Microsoft for some support on this.

RE: AX 2012 - Change Custom Dimension to Standard Dimension

In this case you need to write custom data migration script so that you can map your AX 4.0 Financial Dimensions (Department, Cost Center and Purpose) to AX 2012 Standard Dimension.

Like in AX 2012 Standard Dimension 'Department', 'Cost center' are mappaed as a type or organization and they useto be part of Organization Hierarchy.

So while configuring Source System (AX 4.0) for Data upgrade you should configure Department, cost center as Organization type.

I hope above mapping will help your scenario.

Please let me know if need any more support while upgrade.
