Financial dimension in subproject - how DAX2009 and D365 differs?

Posted on by 5

Hi Team,

Please let me know if m observation is correct?

When I create a subproject in D365 i see it inherits the financial dimension from its parent project( as priority) and merges with project contracts dimension if any?

But when I do the same in DAX2009, I see it copies the dimension from project contract and not from parent project. Is this correct?

    Hello A M,

You did not enable the parameter 'copy values to this dimension ...' that is visible in the middle of the form.

Can you simply enable it in a demo/test environment and create a project with a couple of subprojects.

Once you have done that, disable it again and create another project with subprojects and see the difference that this makes.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Here is the Fin dim form . Do you want to see acct structure too? We do not have any advanced rule set up in acct structure.

    Hello A M,

Can you share how your D365 project findim is configured?

    A screenprint would help.

    Many thanks,

    Ludwig

Well I checked in DAX 2009, there is no customization and project contract is taking priority.

But in D365,  parent project dimension getting priority and overrides dimension in sub-projects in D365. But customer wants the dimension from project contract ( as in DAX 2009) associated with subproject and not from its parent project.

    Hi A M,

I don't have an AX2009 application available to check the standard behavior. I thought also in AX2009 it did initially copy the dimensions from the project as higher priority. Have you verified if you have a customization in AX2009?

Thanks Ludwig. Can you please provide an example?

I'm not sure why parent project dimension getting priority and overrides dimension in sub-projects in D365. But customer wants the dimension from project contract associated with subproject and not from its parent project

    Hello A M,

There are some differences between AX2009 and D365FO when it comes to financial dimension configuration, selection and defaulting.

An important configuration is whether or not the project findim is configured in a way that it auto defaults when a project is created.

Please have a look at the findim forms and setup in D365FO. The setups available there are quite different from what was available in AX2009 and impacts how your default findims are selected.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
