Change of contact owner in Dataverse/MS Dynamics 365 after receiving survey responses.

Hi Community!

While testing surveys, I ran into a situation that I can't replicate that looked very dangerous. Within a marketing email sent from MS Dynamics 365 Marketing, after sending a survey (or receiving a survey response) in Dataverse, the owner of the contact(!) record changed to: "CustomerVoiceProjectOwnerTeam_95715561-f86e-464e-8dc6-c691d6d67c15". The only thing I could find about this change of ownership was the following post on community:

But he is referring to the owner of the survey. In my case, the owner of the contact has also changed! It's like the account manager has changed.... There are no custom plugins or Power Automate Flows running on my environment. I also did not make any changes to the relationship behavior. I could not replicate this error nor can I find information about this behavior in the documentation. Has anyone encountered a similar situation and knows what it depends on, and how to avoid it?

Here are the details of the case:

  • Environment : MS Dynamics 365 Marketing + Customer Voice
  • Status of the integration of Marketing with Customer Voice: Integration enabled
  • Survey sent in marketing email from Customer Journej: Yes
  • Modifications to the Out-of-the-box function: Environment does not have any custom plugins, power automate flow or relationships. Only a few new custom table

ustomerVoiceProjectOwnerTeam_95715561-f86e-464e-8dc6-c691d6d67c15 user is automatically created in CRM. This user is used to make connection between customer survey and CRM using Azure. When any survey response is created in CRM so owner will be set that user. If you want to set old owner then you can write code to set the old owner for that record if owner is customer survey.

It is incomprehensible to me that with the launch of survey integration, the customer/contact owner can change and this is standard behavior. After all, many companies use the owner of the record as the information about who is the custodian of the customer. Additionally, this is a sub table/action. E.g. changing the owner of a phone call does not change the owner of the customer. Do you happen to have a link to the documentation for this functionality?

I contacted Microsoft support. They stated that this is not the default behavior of the system, and if the problem occurs again, please contact them (currently it was not possible to verify the situation on the environment due to lack of data - the records have been deleted). So the topic can be closed

    Hi Partner,

This happens when the survey is distributed to a contact that does not exist in system or Survey is answered by an existing contact in system with a different email id associated in system.  In that case a new contact record is created with the default owner as in Survey Owner or Project owner team : CustomerVoiceProjectOwnerTeam_95715561-f86e-464e-8dc6-c691d6d67c15 .

Please also check the cascading behavior between contact and account due to which Account manager would have got changed.
