    Hi Ahmed,

Are you referring to the Configuration technology on product masters (technet.microsoft.com/.../hh242124.aspx)? If so, there is some basic information in the provided link.

The product builder has been depreciated and is only available is you upgraded from an earlier version of Microsoft Dynamics AX.

    Hi Ahmed,

Thanks for the details on your question. Here is an explanation. Please update if you have further questions.

    - Predefined: All possible configurations are setup in upfront. E.g. Available colors of paint (Black, White, Red, Blue) or Sizes (XS, S, M, L, XL) or combinations (shirt red-xs, red-s, green-xs, green-s etc).

    - Dimension based: You setup a configurable BOM with some options. E.g. a PC.  You can choose between an i5 or i7 processor and 8 or 16 GB ram and hard drive or SSD. The real configuration is created during the selection of the options.

    - Constraint bases: A kind of questionnaire is created with few or many questions where options are constrained based on previous given options. If someone chooses e.g. an i7 processor, the options for cooling are different or limited. The outcome will generate a BOM and Route version.

Usually the constrained based is used where there are more complex options and you probably need a production order process to create the items (make to order). Dimension based  can be used for more simple products (assembly to order).

    Additional setup options

    Predefined variant

The Auto create variant option on the product master allows you to automatically create new product variants when a user assigns new product dimension values of color, size, or configuration to the product master.

    Dimension-based configuration

The Re-use configuration option on the product master allows you to re-use the existing product variant when products that are documented on source document lines are configured. This option helps maintain system performance by preventing an increase in the quantity of master data, for example, if the user configures products that are documented on the sales order line in the same way each time that the user saves a sales order.
