How to mass update the posting date and the document date in item ledger entries...?

Hello,

We've realized that there's a bug in Business Central because once we've created our sales order and we ship it, the date of the "Posted Sales Shipment" is not updated at the date we ship the products.
For example, we create a "Sales Order" on May1st but we ship it on May 20th, the "Posting date" and the "Document Date" of the "Posted Sales Shipment" are still on May 1st.
As an effect, the "Posting dates" in the "item ledger entries" are wrong, same thing for the "Posting Date" and the "Document Date".
Is there a way to mass update these values?
We're thinking of using the "SystemCreatedAt" date to replace the wrong dates.

Thanks in advance, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Ludovic,

This is not a "bug", rather this is an improper setup.  In the Sales and Receivable Setup there is a field called "Default Posting Date", which has two options "Work Date" and "No Date".  I encourage all of our clients to use "No Date" for the exact reason you are mentioning.  If you use "Work Date" and the document stays open for a few days, there is a high probability the User will post the document without updating the Posting Date.  When you use "No Date" the field remains blank, and the User cannot post the document until they enter the Posting Date.  We also teach the Users to use "t" for Today's Date when entering the date.

In regard to updating your existing Ledgers, that will require a custom processing report to make the changes.  You'll want to make sure you update all entries related to the transactions to keep your G/L in balance.

Thanks a lot Ben! That really help!
Could you please give me a Microsoft pointer for "custom processing report"? I'm not familiar with that. Is it used with the package configuration?
    Thks,

Its a report created by a developer that is used to process/manipulate data, rather than produce a printed output like the typical report would. It would not be used with configuration packages.

Essentially you would need a developer to do it if that's the path you would like to take.

I'm actually a developer just new to BC :-). So, if I understand correctly, you are referring to this: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/developer/devenv-request-pages-for-reports.
The problem, if I'm not mistaken is that it will not modify the actual data stored in the database. It"s more like a transformation of the data wrapping the actual data.

Is there a way to mass update the actual data, stored in the database ?

    Thanks in advance.
