Fixed assets depreciation

Hi everyone, 

i have an issue with asset depreciation when i need to post disposal transactions. 

More specifically, the fixed asset settings are such that depreciation is computed yearly using a depreciation profile based on a manual method. When posting the assed disposal throughout the year, in a specific day of the month, i want AX to compute depreciation adjustments up to that date. 

I've seen that it exists a set up that creates depreciation adjustments when posting disposal and it is based on: 

- select the "Automatically create depreciation adjustment amounts with disposal" check box in Fixed assets parameters;

- select the "Create depreciation adjustments with basis adjustments" check box in a specific value model form.

However, the "Create depreciation adjustments with basis adjustments" check box is not displayed in the form for all that value models to which a depreciation profile based on a manual method is associated. 

Does anyone know how can get AX to create and post depreciation adjustments even in the context I've described?

    Hello Roberta,

    In my opinion you either consider making a system modification or switch the setup of your value models/depreciation methods.

    The latter sounds like something that is not feasible if I understand you correctly.

    A third option is making a manual adjustment posting through a depreciation journal upload. Not sure if this is feasible in your case as you mentioned that a lot of fixed assets might be affected.

    I would recommend that you talk to one of your system administrators / developers to find the best solution for this issue.

    Hi Ludwig,

    i considered recording 'manual depreciation' on a monthly basis, however, a few doubts came to my mind:

    - first of all, it would not get me to the point of recording depreciation up to the exact date of disposal (unless it would occur at the end of the month);

    - then, many are the fixed assets to which value models having the characteristics i've described (that is, yearly depreciation, based on a manual amortization profile) have been already assigned; so, how would i be able to "switch" to a different value model throughout the asset useful life and properly account for it from a fiscal perspective?

    - finally, the settings i've mentioned (i refer to the check boxes) would allow to record both the asset disposal and the depreciation adjustments by simply recording the disposal transactions since AX creates an additional line in the journal to account for depreciation.

    About the manual depreciation you mentioned, it can't be considered as a possibile solution since there are too many assets for which the amount should first be computed and then recorded.  

    I hoped there was the possibility to automate depreciation adjustments even in the context I've described.

    Hi Roberta22,

    Thanks for confirmation.

    Is there a possibility that you record your 'manual' depreciation on a monthly basis?

    This would at least overcome a part of the problem because as you mentioned the depreciation adjustment parameters are not available for the manual depreciation method.

    The other alternative would be recording another manual depreciation before you sell/scrap the fixed asset.

    Hi Roberta22,

    If I summarize your request then you want to have an automatic depreciation adjustment when you sell or scrap a fixed asset that has a manual depreciation profile assigned. Is my understanding right?
