This is just a matter of interest/for understanding question as I know the way round the issue.

A user has an Indirect Permission to Modify data in the Vendor table but when they amend a Contact who has a Business Relation to a Vendor then they get the permission error "you do not have permission to modify records in the Vendor table"

Why is this?

Hi,

If your Contact type is Company, there are few fields being modified in the Vendor table. So you need to have permission to modify the data in the vendor table.

remember that you need to both add the indirect permission to the object using it, and also in the role permissions, specify the indirect (as opposed to full) permission for the role

describe more details. there are many reasons for that error. it is also possible that there set additional permissions on table/page level, not only on level of the permission set.
