Assign project categories to procurement categories

Hello,

I don't see why in a procurement category I should use the "Assign project categories" option.

If fact the list are not project categories, they are shared categories.

On the other hand I have a hierarchy like this :

PROCAT1

|__PROCAT1.1

|__PROCAT1.2

|__PROCAT1.3

Where should I assign the project categoy, at parent level? Then it should be generic enough to include the subcategories. Isn't?

Microsoft online resources about this topic are not much enlightening. Do you know any other resource to hel clarify this concepts? Some blogs cover project and shared categories but not the relationship between procurement categories.
