Hi All ,

We have many options like in the Fixed asset module to adjust the asset value as mentioned below.

Acquistion adjustment

Write up

Write down

Revaluation

Could any one explain why these many options and what is the difference between these options ?

Thanks in advance

    Hello Ramanadham,

You replied to a 2 year old post.

Can you please create a new one and provide us some additional information on (a) your system version and (b) modifications that might have been made in your system.

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig

    RE: Fixed Asset adjustment

    Hi Ludwig,

Thanks for your explanation, is there any difference between three methods (like Acquisition adjustment, Write up and Revaluation) after posting against the asset.

because i am using Write up adjustment and using straight line depreciation method,

my issue is after Write up adjustment, when i do the depreciation system is not calculating the asset value correctly based on the remaining periods,

    Example as below

Asset acquisition cost: (opening balance) 1sep2018-- 29,833 (remaining periods-16)

    Deprecation as on 31Dec2018 (-1865 x 4 periods)---7,460

Net book value after depreciation as on 31Dec2018--- 22373

Revaluation of asset value on dt. 31dec2018 ---5000

After revaluation of asset on dt. 31dec2018 net book value is ---27373 (22373+5000) (remaining periods-12 periods)

now when i do Write-up adjustment on 31Jan2019 ax calculating value is 2177 but as per remaining periods it should be 2357 (27373/365 x 31 days=2357)

or (27373/12 periods=2281) but system is calculating as 2177.

Like in the same way try to reevaluating asset with above three methods but after asset adjustment depreciation is not calculating based on the remaining periods, Please suggest.

    Thanks & regards,

    Ramanadham.

    RE: Fixed Asset adjustment

    Hi lally,

    here some hints:

    Acquistion adjustment:

Can be used for differentiating subsequent acquisition adjustments, that is modifications to the fixed asset that increase the value of the fixed asset and consequently influence subsequent depreciations

    Write up & write down:

Can be used for incorporating changes to the fixed asset value to reflect changes in the value of the fixed asset caused for example by accidents or major repairs that change the remaining value of the fixed asset. The difference to acq. adjustments is that the write up/down adjustments occur typically years later.

    Revaluation:

Can be used to incorporate changes in the fixed asset value required for example by Auditors, tax agencies, etc.

Please note that these are only examples and that you can use the different types in a different way in your environment if required.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Thanks for the reply ,

if the four functions used for the same purpose , then why we need to have separately .

Just I want to hear each function usage in the implementation point of view .

    Hello lally,

The different transaction types are available for incorporating different fixed asset regulations applicable in different countries.

As an example, some countries require an explicit separation of 'acquisitions' and subsequent 'acquisition adjustments'. For that reason, you have to option to use this additional transaction type. If you don't need this in your country, I cannot see a reason why you would setup accounts for this posting type.

The same applies for the other transaction types you mention above. If you do not have to report on write up/write down/revaluation transactions, there is no need to set up those transaction types.

    Beste regards,

    Ludwig
