What shipping system works well with AX?

Hello, 

We are currently planning on switching over to DynamicsAX this fall. We have chosen to use the WMSi and WMS II in the AX package as opposed to utilizing another WMS.

I am now looking for a reliable shipping system that will integrate with the AX system. I am currently looking at Logicor GlobalShip and UPS ConnectShip. Has anyone out there had experience with either one of these and if so, what are some of the successes you have had and/or failures.

Also, can anyone suggest some more options to look at? We want to be able to process packages without leaving the AX environment. We currently ship 800 - 1200 packages a day from 3 DCs.

    Hi,

    UPS is by default integrated in AX and some other vendors. I think for the US even a vendor of a kind of interface towards more shipping providers (clippership or something like that). You can download a whitepaper on shipping from the customer source website. No experience with it in practice.

    I investigated the feasibility of integrating a different shipper than those provided by AX (like www.parcelware.nl) . It seems that with polling this can fairly be done. One of the hickups is that this shipper requires the housenumber and zipcode to be separated from streetname and extension. If you follow the whitepaper on integration and are familiar to ODBC and SQL you can integrate any shipping provider. You only have some additional work for it. So if you can stay to the existing onces that would be best.

    Hi,

    I managed to integrate TNT Parcelware into Dynamics AX 2009 succesfully. The tracking number is even posted back into AX and verified during invoicing. I added my own shipper enumBase TNTParcelware and it is automatically added to the shipper list like UPS, Clipper and Fedex. TNT Parcelware is not a realtime cost based shipper, so the shipping charges etc. are not staged back into AX. It can, but this shipper does not have that data. I also tried to post directly into the shipping tracking table to avoid this staging table, but no luck which that. AX wants that table to be filled, although the whitepaper states the Clipper software does not.

    Some issue of concern related to AX are:

    1. If a packing slip has negative quantities (from a receive now = -1 or RMA), then the staging process is triggered and a shipping label is requested although nothing is to be shipped. Maybe somebody can confirm same is happening for other shippers.

    2. The track and trace is like trackingnumber+zipcode, however in AX no zipcode can be specified. It seems that the trackingurl provided through the staging table is not copied into the trackingtable. So how to do this one?

    3. Suggestion for the staging table: include the dataareaid so that it is clear from/to which company is shipped.

    4. Suggestion for the staging table: add also a unique key which can be used to update the shipmentrequest easier. The TNT parcelware does not have 2 unique identifiers for salesid and packingslipid. Basically you also want the dataareadid to be included here.

    5. COD I did not implement yet. This is COD is not customized yet.

    6. I did not implement multiple colli.

    7. Shipping labels cancelled by Parcelware is to be improved.
