Connecting Crm2016 On-Premise to Exchange Online

Hello,

We are in the process of connecting our CRMTest Server to exchange Online, so when we migrate fully to O365, we can make sure our regular CRM will connect properly.

In the documentation provided by Microsoft they mention a x509 Certificate Signed by a CA, how do I purchase a x509 certificate?

When running the PowerShell cmdlets, do we need to run PowerShell from the CRM server, or does it not matter since it is remoting to exchange online?

Also, how does Exchange Online connect to our On-Premise CRM, do we have to configure the firewall at all, my boss is convinced we do.

- Thanks

    Hello Dburke,

    Hope you are well.

    A x509 certificate is a standard certificate.

I suppose you are exposuring Dynamics 365 (CRM) to Internet through Claims-Based/IFD setup.

So,  you can use the wildcard/SAN certificate assigned to D365 website as well.

About PowerShell cmdlets, you should run it on Dynamics 365 (CRM) Onprem server.

Finally, about Firewall exceptions, pay attention on standard SSL traffic (443).

Our current CRM setup is all on-premise and connects to our exchange on-premise but want it to connect to exchange online. I think we have an IFD setup for internal use, but do we need it setup for external use? And does that cause any security issues for us to be aware of?
