GP issue - linking sales order to purchase order

Customer cannot link purchase order to sales order - giving a site ID error
 
The item, sales order and purchase order all reference the same Site ID.
They state that they used to be able to do this until a recent upgrade (March - before my time)
 
Any suggestions as to what would cause this?
