I found the case that Ax post price different between moving average when PO receipt.

Moreover, this receipt post with a huge value of the minus cost price.

Normally when we receipt, the cost posted will be positive ? I am not sure what happened in my case ?

    Hi dsin,

Usually the Price difference for moving average account is only used when you post invoices? Can you recheck if you look at the correct voucher(s).

Also have a look at the Moving average whitepaper for some more background information: www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

My understanding is the same as yours.

Normally, it will post when invoice.

However, when i look at the journal, it is PO receipt.

    Dr Product receipt

       Cr Purchase expenditure, un-invoiced

Cr Price difference between moving average

Still confuse what is the root cause.

Not sure whether it is related with the backdate transaction, since this product receipt is backdated transaction.

    Hi dsin,

The last sentence could be the cause, however I have not posted such transaction myself. It will be worth doing a test with it. Can you indicate if the cost price per unit is very different per purchase? This is a real exceptional large difference.

    Hi dsin,

It is related to the fact that the Product Receipt is back dated. In the PDF at the link André provided above, there is a section titled 'Backdating and moving average' which explains.

Essentially, posting a backdated product receipt with a different cost price to the current moving average cost causes the difference to be expensed (so as not to cause a change to the current moving average cost price).

Good morning, I read your case and we have one very similar.

Since it has generated a purchase order with local currency, with date February 4th and the reception was generated with date February 9th, the supplier still does not issue the invoice.

But we noticed that the accounting entry applies the account "price difference for moving average", when it should not be applied yet. (local currency Purchase Order and without registering the invoice).

But when I do the reception with current date, the accounting entry is correct, without applying the account   "price difference for moving average ".

    Could you help me, please?

    Welsi

    Hi Welsi,

Your scenario sounds the same as dsin's.

If you post a backdated product receipt with a different cost price to the current moving average cost, it causes AX to post the "price difference for moving average" transactions.

This is so that AX can maintain the current moving average cost price. Check the PDF in the link in André's first comment on this topic.

Thanks for the reply Guy Terry,

Is a new product, is the first purchase order, is the first  receipt, is the first movement to establish the average cost.

As ax can determine the difference in price if there is still no historical movements?

    Hi Welsi,

If you are receiving an item which is not currently in inventory (or a new item, that has never been received) I can't see why AX would create price difference transactions when you post a back dated product receipt. Sorry!

When the price difference for the moving average posts from the vendor invoice posting, we have set the configure account structure to require certain financial dimensions for the account that is setup within inventory management posting. Our issue is that the price difference posts and creates a voucher without the required financial dimensions. Have we missed something in our setup? When I create other transactions (general journal entries or inventory adjustment journals) the transaction will not post without the required financial dimensions.
