SQL server 2014 installation failure

Hi,

I am trying to install NAV 2015 and I get the "Microsoft SQL Server 2014 - Express Package failed to install" error. Here is what I have done:

1) New clean install of Microsoft Server 2012 essentials. SetupMon.exe failed to install automatically, so I manually installed it (as admin).

2) Installed the NAV 2015 Dynamics demo option. The error I got is that SQL server 2014 installation is not complete as it expected a 'restart'

3) Restarted the VM

4) Tried NAV 2015 Demo installation again and stuck with "Microsoft SQL Server 2014 - Express Package failed to install" error.

I tried a clean install of all the above steps in a new VM and still the same issue. I also looked at a solution of manually installing the SQL server 2014, but not sure about server instance name etc. and how it will be connected to NAV Demo database.

Do you have all the necessary rights to install Microsoft SQL Server 2014? Please check for that.

Also, you can try installing SQL Server on its own and then Dynamics NAV, by this, it will automatically create a new instance (NAVDEMO) on the SQL Server.

Please revert if unable to find the solution.

Thanks. It worked.

1) Install SQL server 2014 as admin

2) Install NAV demo.

When you installed the NAV demo did you choose the first option "Install Demo" or "Choose an installation option"?

Just curious since SQL server 2014 would already be installed...
