Can't put transfer line on packing location

Hello,

we have a customer, which needs to pack all the picked item before shipping them to their retail stores or customers. So, I have location directives set up to put picked item on the packing zone. With Sales line it works fine, but with transfer line, I see an error in work creation history log:

Location PACK_01 failed because the final put location for transfer order issue work must be a final shipping location type and be license plate controlled.

This means, that I can't pack manually transfer order lines. Is this by design behavior?

Thanks,

Ventsislav

Well, by design is a strong word.

Yes, this is how the system works now, so I guess it's by design.

Whether this is a good design is another question.

We have it on our list of improvements but no ETA for when we'll be looking at that.

If your company needs it, push the support organization so the stack rank of this goes up.

    OK, Vanya, thank you.

I will create a support request, but I don't believe we have the time to wait for the fix.  Maybe its better to fix it by ourselves (I work for a MS partner). Can you help us with some advice on the topic?

Well, it is not going to be easy, I guess primarily because you'll need to think through the receipt part of it. We currently don't have a "unpack" station, so you'd either need to do that outside of the system upon receipt (and putaway, because LP receiving does both), or build that in somehow.

As for just supporting that in the Pack form - that should be relatively simple, as it does not have a hard dependency on the sales order, so just by debugging through the flow after removing the above validation, you should be able to see what other places to touch.

I haven't done that, so hard to suggest specific touch points.

If I create purchase order and load with packing structure (lets say, 2 LPs with mixed items), I may receive that stock through Load receiving or with LP receiving (it's working fine)

If I create manual packing for a transfer order in Warehouse1 and I ship the load to Warehouse2, isn't it basically the same - I will have to receive a load with packing structure in Warehouse2, so I could use LP receiving or Load receiving, and even Transfer order line receiving. If I am right, it will work for the customer.

PS. Just to be sure, when you advise me to contact the support organisation, do you mean to create a support request?

    Greetings,

    Ventsi

    Yes, create a support request.

You'd need to modify the packing structure - the structure is created automatically when transfer order is shipped, and does not correspond to how the items are packed
