VS 2017 on Dev VM constantly looses connection to DevOps

We recently updated our installations to 10.0.16 which has caused a warning that we need to update VS to 2017 on DEV environments by April 2021.  On a newly deployed DEV VM I am having difficultly both connecting to DevOps project and maintaining that connection for more than an hour.

When opening VS 2017 on DEV VM it will not automatically connect to DepOps project https://dev.azure.com/XXXXX.  I click on connect to server and re-enter credentials and refresh the list and eventually I am able to see the project and connect to it.   After an hour or so if I try to do a check out or check in for example I am forced to repeat this process.

My question is has anyone else seen this behavior and what can be done to fix it.  I am able to log in to the DevOps project via web browser just fine and I do have permission to check in code on the project.

Weirdly in VS 2015 the server path was https://XXXXX.visualStudio.com which worked flawlessly.

Regards,

Don Shields

    Hi doninep,

Which version are you upgrading from? I have updated Dev server from 10.0.12 to 10.0.16 a month back and have not faced any such issue.

You may also try deploying a new Dev server with 10.0.16 and see if you face the same issue.

I upgraded from 10.0.15 but that VM was initially created on 10.0.8 or something old.  It's been around for close to a year.  I may have resolved the issue.  It seems like when I installed VS 2017 and mapped it a new workspace was created, so I had one workspace mapped to 2015 and one to 2017 although they were both mapped to the same folder.  Since I went in and deleted the 2015 workspace it seems like it resolved the problem.  when I open VS 2017 it connects to DevOps on it's own.

I'm giving it to the end of day and if I don't get disconnected I'm going to call it solved.

    Thanks for the reply

Turns out this did not fix it.

Please try deploying a new Dev VM and check if the issue persists. What version of VS 2017 did you install?

I am actually on a new one.  I gave up on the old one.

Sorry I missed the version question but it's mute now since I'm on a new VM.
