Main Account 142*** is not among the accounts in account group GST that are used for sales tax code AB***

Hello everyone,

We are getting this error when trying to post a General Journal.

Main Account 142*** is not among the accounts in account group GST that are used for sales tax code AB***

I've checked the following and these are setup correctly, I can't seem to pinpoint the issue.

  1. Sales Tax codes
  2. Sales Tax group
  3. Item Sales tax group
  4. Ledger posting groups

The GL account Posting Type is setup as Sales Tax.

I think the key word here is "account group".

I'd appreciate some feedback.

Thanks,

Mohsin Kamal

Check your 'Ledger posting groups' again. I would suspect that account 1142*** is not contained in group 'GST'.

From GL journal, It seems that when you try to select the VAT code directly without combination of VAT group/Item VAT Group, D365 generates this message. 2 options:

    * Setup properly the correct combination VAT group/Item VAT group for an automatic population of the VAT code

    * To select the VAT code in the "Sale tax" option in GL journal during creation of your transaction

    Hi Mohsin Kamal,

I think you have to check in only 2 areas which are Sales tax group and Item sales tax group forms as you already mentioned that 'Ledger posting group' is properly set.

Make sure, in these 2 forms you have select all relevant tax codes which should come as per your localization. Then system will automatically fetch the correct sales tax code based on these two group combinations which you selected in the General journal.

Can you please check this and confirm in this forum.

    Best regards,
    Sourav Dam

    Correct,

    * Ledger posting group should be setup with Main accounts setup as "Sale tax" in MA posting type

    * VAT code should be linked to Ledger Posting Group

    * VAT group and Item VAT group should contain accurate VAT codes for a correct combination

    * To populate manually or automatically VAT group and Item Vat Group, for population of VAT code during posting.

With these controls, the message   "Main Account 142*** is not among the accounts in account group GST that are used for sales tax code AB***" shouldn't be appear
