HiDynamics GP now uses .docx files rather than .doc files in the letter writing assistant. When generating letters does anyone know of a way to use macro-enabled .docm files? Or revert to using classic .doc files? Many thanksMatt
Hi Matt
There are no setting or options that can change what kind of letters ( .docx vs ,.doc ) are created by LWA.
I'll keep the post out here to see if anyone has suggestions on macros.
Thanks!
Dean
Hi Matt,
May I ask why you would want to save the Word Letters in .docm format ? Do you want to create your own custom templates for the Letter Assistant ? The old formats that are installed with the latest GP version are still perfectly working as mail-merge templates..
Thanks Dean. I'm currently investigating whether I can use VSTO to create a Word Add-In to replicate the functionality in a .doc macro-enabled file. It's not as simple as it sounds LOL.
Hi Beat
We have a bunch of macro-enabled .doc files that were used on GP 2013 from the LWA in GP (from customer maintenance). The Word letter was created and a VBA userform popped up to prompt the user to supply more information to go in the letter (with plenty of conditional logic!). It's actually very clever but in GP 18.3 we can only see .docx files.
Cheers
Matt
thank you Matt,
I got it.. My understanding is that the data from GP is driven by a template file called "WordIntegration.dot" and that it can be attached to any word document, even created from scratch.
Despite using O365, I'm still habel to save a file as '*.docm', but that wouldn't show up in GP when I try to use it with the LWA. So how do you make GP recognize *.docm files with VBA ?
I couldn't get GP itself to recognise .doc or .docm files.
I ended up creating a VSTO MS Word add-in that recognises when a GP letter is created, pops up the relevant user form and inserts the entered data in to the document. Not quite as flexible as the old VBA solution as any code changes need the add-in to be redeployed to the users but still a very acceptable solution!
