Dataverse Out of Space: Options for Remediation ?

Hello everyone,

Quick question — I currently have two F&O sandbox environments used by developers for their personal development, in addition to two environments, DEV and TEST.

I'm quite surprised to see that almost all of our Power Platform database capacity has been consumed.

I also have three other Power Platform environments containing very few solutions, so they’re unlikely to be the main contributors to the storage usage.

Is there a way to optimize the database usage?

If not, what would be the best license to significantly increase the available database capacity?

Thank you

I have the same question (0)

I'm not too surprised about the storage utilization, this is what I'm seeing also. And as far as I recall, there is no good way to reduce the Dataverse database size as it's mostly binary artifacts. Here others can correct me.

Only remedy is to buy additional Dataverse database storage, unfortunately.

However I'm a bit surprised by the total consumption.
Out of curiosity, and unrelated to your question, I'd like to see the content of the "Dataverse" tab, if possible. And afterwards the "Details" of the largest one of the FinOps environments.

I agree. Its the common thing people see but I say  Audit and Clean Up: Regularly review and clean up data in your environments to optimize storage usage and Consider Resetting Sandboxes: If sandboxes are no longer needed, reset them to free up capacity.

    Thanks

    Hi ALP2,

As mentioned by Jonas, via the Dataverse tab, you will get more information about which environment consumes what database space. You can then also drill into several more details.
Jonas is correct that a lot of database spaces is consumed by binary artifacts. This can be about 3 to 3.5 GB per environment. In case you have 4 F&O environments, then the consumed customer data would be around [31 - (4*3.5) =] 17 GB. It's interesting to dive into the details to explain this 17GB as this is not only due to deploying environments.

My assumption is that the other non-FinOps environments has been deployed with "D365 Apps" enabled. But let's see.

Out of context of this particular forum, it makes little sense to deploy non-D365 environments with this flag set, as you can enable the longer backup retention period now using Power Shell.

    Hi,

    sorry Guys for the delay.

Here's the actual consumption of Dataverse. I was wrong, I thought there were only 2 D365 environments but finally we have more.
As you said, D365 comes with artifacts that increase consumption.

I scheduled a meeting with Microsoft to find the best licensing approach that fits our needs.
