Removing Three Dashes From Date Field

I am using Dynamics 365 on-premise version 9.0.6.9 with Unified Interface. When users click on any date fields they have to remove the three lines (dashes) before they can enter the date, however this is not required for other string fields. Is there any way to change this behavior? 

Any help is appreciated, Thanks
