How to Add the converted non-stocked item to BOM lines in AX 2012?

I can convert a service type stocked to non-stocked product. But this converted non-stocked product cannot be added to BOM line, instead it throws error that "An item cannot be associated with a BOM if it is associated with an item model group where the attribute Stocked product is not selected". How to add an Non-stocked item in BOM line(This BOM line should not be consumed during production)?

If the Non-Stocked items cannot be added in BOM line, Then what is the purpose/Use of converting an Stocked service to non-stocked product?  Where this conversion can be used in Ax 2012?

    Hi Archana,

I think you can find your answers in the next blog: blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../service-products-in-microsoft-dynamics-ax-2012

What are you trying to accomplish by placing a non-stocked service item on a BOM Line?  The simple answer is a component must be in an item model group that is stocked, so non-stocked service items can't be on a BOM line.

The conversion from Stocked to Non-Stocked service items exists for traditional services, not used as part of subcontracting.  Andre's link is older, but it is still valid.

A new feature in AX2012 is the non-stocked product. This is used for expense items bought from a vendor. This is because these items are consumed immediately and does not cary any inventory transactions.

Believe it or not, but to be able to allocate item costs to a consumed product, you need a base line inventory transaction. This is even done for services. Thou they might not have an inventory quantity, the cost amountsl are still tracked trough inventory transactions.

So... Expense items (non-stocked products) are not available to be used in BOMs. I also found the name confusing and fell into the same trap. Hope you didn't do this in your Live environment as there isn't a straight forward way back...
