"Free" check numbers

Once a bank account is created and the check numbers are configured as "free", can I change the number of digits in the check number?

For example:

My first check number is 10000000, which would make the following suggested check numbers 10000001, 10000002, etc.

After transactions are posted, can it be changed to 7 digits instead of 8? (e.i. 1000001, 1000002, etc)

Hello Ramit,

I mean can the next suggested check number be changed from 8 digits back to 7?

I know I can enter whatever check number I would like, but essentially I would like to "reset" where the check numbers start.

My first check number was 10000000, making the next one 10000001.

I would like it to start at 1000000 now, making the next check number 1000001.

7 digits instead of 8.

Yes You can change this but just test if you are getting newly created check numbers.

You may have to delete already created "Checks" (Cash and Bank > Checks )

Hi Ramit!

Are you able to elaborate?

Each time I create a new check with the desired amount of digits (7), that particular check is fine when I manually enter a 7 digit number.

But, when I go back to create another, the new proposed check number is still 8 digits. I have to manually it change back to 7 digits.

I would like the next suggested check number to not keep defaulting back to 8 digits.

Hello Shay,

I tested in my machine and its working as expected.

I have kept the " check number method" as free and whatever I am adding at the time of generating payment/cheque working fine.

Also, from the next time it is starting form the next one.

Please note- Cheque Number comes for Bank account, hence if you give 8 digit then it will only work for that bank only, not with another bank.
