How to override access for a button ?

Hi community,

the client wanted a specific security role to not have access to a certain ActionTab. This role has many sub roles.

How can I see where in this role the permission is given (including the sub roles & privileges) ?

If I wanted to override the access to this button group \ ActionTab for that Role, how would I do that ? (the Form does not appear in the override permissions form under System Administration > Setup > Security > Security Roles).

Thanks a lot in advance.

    Hi Waller,

You can probably use the Security Development Tool to find out which menu items are used and do have which privileges/duties to take action. Note that security access points are usually secured; not a button group or an action pane. To be able to use override permissions on form controls, the property 'NeededPermission' of the form control should be set to Manual.

If you start with the approach to secure access points (menu items) you might find out that some buttons are not linked to menu items. In that case, the 'NeededPermission' property manages if it would be possible to override permisssions.

PS @Krishna: the link to the blog post is not working.

    Hi again, many thanks!

Problem is the Role is composed of many Sub-Roles, privileges and Duties; finding where the permission is located would be extremely time consuming. Is there not a better way ?

And I was always wondering: if I change the NeededPermission to manual, wouldnt I need to change the permission level of the securable object wherever it is linked ?

Again, a big thanks. You are a great contributor to the ax forum & community around here.

    Hi Waller,

When you set the neededpermission to manual, you indeed have to set override where it is used. You can do this on a privilege which would then be applicable to multiple roles where it is used. Or on individual roles.

Tim described in his blog the two options how to find where the permissions are granted. This is still a manual task and having multiple menu items this would be a bit cumbersome...
