How to delete zip code from address setup

Hello,

We have some bad zip codes and want to delete them. I have fixed the address with the bad zip codes in the global address book but when trying to delete the bad zip code from the address setup, I get an error message "ZIP/postal codes cannot be deleted while dependent Addresses exist. Delete dependent Addresses and try again.". I have already corrected the address with the bad zip code and cannot find an address with the bad zip code.

Is there somewhere else I should be looking, or am I maybe missing a step?

Thanks,

Paul

    Hi Paul,

Can you explain what exactly you are asking in your last reply? The fact is that you have bad data which can't be deleted due to the current data model design. To correct it, you would need a script (SQL or x++ runnable class) as we can't just change the Addresses table design.

    Thanks for the reply.

Please advise how we should handle the business case of bad data in the address validation tables.  This is a legitimate business case that we should be able to address without the need to database scripts.

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

When you change an address, it is not actually updating the address record, but it creates a new record and makes the old record inactive with a valid to date. The Addresses table has been enabled for date effectiveness to be able to keep the address history for audit purposes.

For this reason, there are indeed still references in the Addresses table which would prevent you from deleting the Zip/postal codes.

You can consider creating a custom x++ script to delete the wrong references form the Addresses table.
