accessing management reporter / report designer

Posted on by 2,046

Hi folks

I have inherited a GP client.  None of the users have ever used management reporter and cannot access it (they get the path to the server is incorrect would you like to enter a new path / number - indicates that they are not set up as users inside MR).  It looks like the only administrator user is the active directory user that installed the software.  Trouble is no one knows what windows user was.

Once I have one user with admin rights inside MR I am good to go.

Is there a way in without being logged into Windows as the install user?  Is there a way to add a user from outside of MR?

thanks!

    Hi Matt

Turned out there were three id's, two GP users and 1 former VAR.  The GP users are not working however, so now we are looking at the services, and if they are running.  Will suggest changing password from former VAR just so we can get in.

There might be a way around it but not that I'm aware of.  Can their IT just activate the login and change the password for a brief period of time, long enough for you to get logged in and make your user an admin?

yeeessss.... but when we find out that all the people on that list are from the former VAR is there anything else we can do other than reinstall and lose any design elements?

You should be able to query the Reporting.SecurityUser table in the Management Reporter database to find out what user is set up.

    Hi Deanne

This is before we get to the GP security level.  The active directory that was used to install should be set up as an administrator in MR.  Until other users are also set up as users they get told that the connection to the server is incorrect.  What it really should say is I don't know who you are.

Wouldn't the sa user be set up?  Perhaps you could start with that.  Also, within GP, can you review the roles/tasks to see if the MR users are designated there?
