Hi,
I know in general the difference between cloud and on premise like infrastructure, management etc..
But in terms of development..is there a difference? What will be different when I do development for on-premise rather than cloud. Currently I develop for cloud.
Hi IntegrationBeginner,
Customizations and extensions in Dynamics 365 is in general the same for both on-premise and the cloud based version. There are some differences where some services are not supported on on-premise environments. For some of our solutions we had to adjust coding to fully support on-premise environments. I can't recall all details. At least, the way how we interacted with the base URL was a bit different. The challenges we had was at least not related to normal table, form and class development; more on deep technical framework extensions.
Hi Andre,
1.What kind of services are not supported for on premise can you give an example?
2.As for the url, you mean the url for the environment is different? How do we connect?
3.And by framework extensions you mean like CoC? Is this different than for cloud?
4.How about deployment..do we still use DevOps? And how do we move code to other environments as I suppose there is no LCS right?
1. There is a comparison of features available for the cloud and on-premise: Comparison of cloud and on-premises features - Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Docs
2. I don't recall the details here. I only know that certain coding to retrieve part of the URL was not correctly working where it was working on a cloud environment.
3. CoC is the same for both deployment types. We have a Security and Compliance Studio solution where we found that some details are stored different for users in the cloud (Azure AD) or where the AD is used and synced with Azure AD. Also here it is too long ago to remember the exact details.
4. LCS is used for on-premise environments. You can read the documentation for customization deployment: Develop and deploy custom models to on-premises environments - Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Docs
How about integrations like odata, custom services, recurring integration and data management package API
Are they supported?
On the comparison document, the "Integrations" are supported. I don't have specific experiences to know what type of integration is working on-premise or not. I have never been involved in an on-premise implementation.
