Customer voice export custom links not working

(3) ShareShare

Hi all,

I'm using Customer voice and trying to generate custom links for my survey respondents.

However when I try to export the links, the download file seems to give an encoding error.

Has anyone encountered this issue and if so, is there any way to resolve this?

Thanks
Abi

Good morning, afternoon, or evening :) depending on your location!
    Hope you are well today.

The encoding error you're encountering when exporting custom links in Customer Voice is likely due to a mismatch in file format or encoding settings. Here's how you can troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
    Steps to Resolve:
    1. Check File Format:
      • Confirm the format of the exported file (e.g., .csv, .txt, or .xlsx).
      • If the file is not in the expected format, try opening it with a text editor or spreadsheet software like Notepad++ or Excel.
    2. Verify Encoding:
      • Open the file in a text editor that supports encoding options (e.g., Notepad++).
      • Check the encoding type (e.g., UTF-8, ANSI) and ensure it matches the expected format for your system.
      • If the encoding is incorrect, save the file with the correct encoding (e.g., UTF-8).
    3. Re-export the Links:
      • Try exporting the custom links again from Customer Voice.
      • Ensure that the export process completes without interruptions.
    4. Test with a Different Browser:
      • Sometimes, browser-specific issues can affect the export process. Try using a different browser to export the links.
    5. Update Customer Voice:
      • Ensure that your Customer Voice instance is updated to the latest version. Updates often include bug fixes and improvements.

    Hope this helps!

    Hello Abi,

Yes, encountering encoding errors when exporting custom survey links from Customer Voice is a known issue for some users. It often manifests as garbled text or an inability to open the downloaded file correctly. Here's a breakdown of potential causes and how you might be able to resolve it:

Possible Causes of the Encoding Error:

    • Default Export Encoding: Customer Voice might be exporting the CSV file with a default encoding (like UTF-8 with BOM or a regional specific encoding) that your system's default application for opening CSV files doesn't recognize or handle correctly.
    • Regional Settings: Your regional settings in Windows or your spreadsheet software might be expecting a different encoding.
    • Special Characters: If the data associated with your custom links (e.g., First Name, Last Name, other variables) contains special characters that aren't handled well by the default encoding, it can lead to errors.
    • Software Compatibility: The software you're using to open the CSV file (like Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Notepad) might have its own default encoding settings that clash with the file's encoding.

    •

    Troubleshooting and Resolution Steps:

    1. Try Opening the File with Different Software:

      • Notepad (Windows): Open the downloaded CSV file with Notepad first. If it appears readable, try saving it with a specific encoding (File > Save As > Encoding: UTF-8). Then, try opening this newly saved file in your spreadsheet software.
      • TextEdit (Mac): Similar to Notepad, try opening with TextEdit and saving with UTF-8 encoding.
      • Google Sheets: Instead of directly opening the downloaded file, try importing it into Google Sheets. When importing, Google Sheets often provides options to detect the encoding or allows you to specify it. Go to File > Import > Upload, select your file, and look for encoding settings during the import process.

    2. Specify Encoding When Opening in Spreadsheet Software:

      • Microsoft Excel:

        • Open Excel.
        • Go to Data tab > Get Data > From Text/CSV.
        • Select your downloaded CSV file and click Import.
        • In the preview window, you should see a dropdown menu for File origin. Try different encodings (like UTF-8, UTF-8 (with BOM), ANSI, or other regional encodings) until the data预览 looks correct.
        • Once the preview is correct, click Load.

      • LibreOffice Calc: Similar to Excel, LibreOffice Calc usually provides an option to select the character set when opening a CSV file.

    3. Check and Clean Your Data:

      • Special Characters: Review the data you've used for creating custom links (especially the "First Name" and any other custom variables). Try removing or replacing any unusual or non-standard characters to see if that resolves the encoding issue during export.

    4. Ensure Customer Voice is Configured for UTF-8 (Generally Default): While you might not have direct control over Customer Voice's export encoding, it generally defaults to UTF-8. However, if you've made any unusual configurations, it's worth considering.

    5. Report the Issue to Microsoft Support: If none of the above steps work, it's crucial to report this issue directly to Microsoft Support for Customer Voice. They might be aware of this as a bug or have specific guidance related to their export functionality. Provide them with details about:

      • Your region and language settings.
      • The browser you're using.
      • The software you're trying to open the CSV with.
      • Whether the data contains any special characters.

      •

In summary, the most likely solution involves trying to open the exported CSV file with specific encoding settings in your spreadsheet software (like Excel or Google Sheets) or using a basic text editor to resave it with UTF-8 encoding. If the problem persists, reporting it to Microsoft Support is the best next step.

    Hello FS-07040606-0,

Based on my understanding, the issue you're facing is that the exported survey links from Customer Voice are displaying encoding errors.

Here are a few suggestions to resolve it:

    1. Open the file correctly in Excel: Go to Data > From Text/CSV and select 65001: Unicode (UTF-8) as the file origin.

    2. Check file encoding: Open the CSV in Notepad++ or VS Code, and if necessary, re-save it with UTF-8 encoding.

    3. Try using a different browser when exporting the file.

    4. Consider using Power Automate to generate and distribute links as an alternative to manual export.

    5. Reach out to Microsoft Support if the issue continues.

If this helps, please mark the response as verified.

    Thanks,

    Krishna

I’ve attempted the suggestions listed below, but unfortunately, none of them have been successful. I've resorted to using power automate.
