Force management Server Name

On my development environment, I want to force the ip of the management

I go to Tools -> Options and replace 'Server Name'  with the external FQDN of the server (with for example 'nav.mycustomer.com')

But when some modifications are done on a table, it say that it cannot connect to the specified instance (but if i test the port it's open)

How can i force the ip of the management ?

"...it say that it cannot connect to the specified instance" -> Where are you getting that Message?

Why do you want to force the IP? Need more details. :)
