Fixed Assets - Depreciation periods remaining

Dear Experts,

I`m a bit confused the way our Depreciation periods remaining on Value model form are calculated/Updated.

Value model Acquisition: $1`858.59 Date 01/10/2012

Depreciation periods 60 months ($30.9765 per month)

First depreciation $1`115.15 Date 31/10/2015 + 16 x $30.98 up to Date 26/02/2017 and leaves us 3 Depreciation periods remaining. I would expect to see at least 8+/- periods remaining.

Is there a chance that periods were manually calculated wrong after first depreciation? Therefore it leaves us with 3 periods of 2 x 30.98 + 1 x 185.80 when proposal is ran.

I assume AX updates the Depreciation periods remaining field it self when the journal is posted or remaining periods can be manually adjusted.

Kind Regards,

V

    Hi V,

Can you provide more information about the setup of your value models and parameter settings?

Do you know whether the first depreciation amount was calculated by AX or manually specified because of a transfer from the previous system?

Do you know if the remaining depreciation periods have been manually entered (transferred)?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

Thanks for a quick reply. Issue I`m having is that the end users are not aware if the depreciation periods were manually adjusted or not when the first depreciation was posted. I would expect it was transferred from the previous system to have some historical data within AX. If we decide to change remaining periods manually will that have some knock affect in future when running proposals?

I did a quick test in our test environment changing remaining periods manually to what I would expect to see (from 3 to 8). When I ran deprecation proposal up to 31/10/2017 it calculates the lines correctly for each month 8 x $30.98+/- ...

    Regards,

    V

    Hi Viesturs,

Manually changing is indeed possible. Too bad someone is not aware what exactly happened in your environment. Based on the chosen depreciation method the amount is calculated differently. If you have tested it with the same data in a separate environment and the result is correct, you can also change the remaining periods in your production environment.

    Hi Andre,

Thanks for your reply and clearing this out. I think we will have to adjust the periods manually as the missing periods only applies for few of fixed assets/value models. When we create one from scratch and allocate Acquisition value and depreciation periods, it splits the costs correctly every month when proposal is ran.

    Regards

    Hi V,

Please have a look at Andre's comments.

Do you have some migration documents available that would allow you double checking what has been originally been migrated?

Do you know if only some fixed assets are affected by this issue or do you have several fixed assets which are affected by this?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

There's only few fixed assets that have missing/incorrect remaining periods. Pretty much 90% calculates correctly. I couldn't find any documentation what happened back in 2015 regarding depreciation posting when the process of implementation was launched. I know there was a lot of data transfer in 2016 but nothing to do with fixed assets as far as I`m aware. We have agreed with the finance department to update/review the current ones manually if there's an issue when creating depreciation proposal.

    Regards,

    V

    hi,

    Hope your doing well,

Is there any report to get the list of FA Depreciation period remaining report in AX R3.

Depreciation period remaining should appear with FA Balance list.
