How to increase number of characters for description

Hi, I'm izzati. As refer to the above subject, currently my Dynamics NAV only can key in up to 50 characters only for description field. Is it possible for me to increase the number of characters up to 70 characters for example? How can I do that?

You can go to table designer and increase the length of field but you need to change everywhere wherever the field is used and this is very tedious work.

Like Amol's suggestion, it is very tedious to change that.

Best way to do it if possible is to create another description field with 250 characters (max allowed) and use that new field. That way at least you only need to make changes on the required pages and tables.

Are you using field Description 2 - another 50 character field already? It's in most of the key tables but I know I had to add it to a number of pages and reports in my company's environment before users could make use of it directly.

You need to have access of NAV development environment . If you have then go to Tools--> Object designer -> Select the appropriate table and click on design

Dear Users,

if you still facing the problem to resolve the issue...please follow the below screenshot and double click on selected icon... "Development Environment" will open . Here, please go in table section and increase the length of the description fields.

The link is for Navision 2016 version.

If you ask questions "Where is table designer", you should definitely NOT change the length of the description field. As other members mentioned, you would need to change that throughout the whole other objects where this description might be automatically transferred when you do your posting. This would result in unability of users to post or create documents.

Another thing is that most of the reports are designed to fit default 50 characters. Expanding them might result in disturbance in layout of standard reports and printforms. Better use Description 2 if possible.
