I have a query about the Entities artifact that can be used to add Entities Component to the App designer.
My understanding is that when I add an item to the Site Map the corresponding Entity Component is automatically added to the Entities list. But what about dependent entities like for example I need an Entity on my Site Map that has a 1:N to two other child entities which are displayed on the parent entities form and we need access to those details via drilldown. Should these Entities also get added automatically. I ask this as when I try this scenario I only see the Parent Entity added to the Entity View or selected under Artifacts but not the child entities. Is this how it is that we only get the main entity added to the Artifact but other entities can still be accessed via that.
Hi bravoss,
Before I answer your question I need to know if you are using model-driven-app or canvas app.
If sounds like you are using model-driven-app?
Yes I am trying to modify the Model Driven App by using the PowerApps app designer.
Okay great!
Did you convert an existing solution to a model-driven-app or did you create a new model-driven-app.
If you converted a existing solution to a model-driven-app then your entities should be already there.
However if you creating a new model-driven-app then you will have to manual add the entities that are required.
Sound like you are creating a new model-driven-app.
If you did not know you can convert an existing solution to a model-driven-app.
If will not cause problems to your existing solution.
Thanks, this is an existing model driven app that has restrictions on number of entities added hence I wan to know if my adding main entity is fine as I find I can access child records by drilling down from parent entity form and this works fine . Do I really need to add all entities I access to app explicitly ?
Yes you do. You must app all the entities that you are going to use in model-driven-app. You can't do either or.
If you were using canvas app then you can do either or.
And what is the reason you believe that is so? I have added the parent entity and can access child entity records and form fine. Can you elaborate reason why you feel this is necessary.
So you are saying you are currently running a model-driven-app that is also using the Unified Interface. If that is the case I was not aware that could happen.
I do have a question. Why would you not want to move the entities into the model-driven-app. This way you are only dealing with model-driven-app.
Just asking.
Model driven app runs on the unified interface , don't think we can use it any other way ? We put a subset of all entities to create app...I assume you have used and created this as it is mandatory from October .
Yes. You are correct I did.
Hope I did not confuse you.
