Project categories are not displayed in Work breakdown structure

Hi,

We want to crate the Work breakdown structure for an Internal project, but we are having trouble when we want to select the Category for the activities. No category is displayed in the combobox, even though we do have categories and these are assigned to Category groups. What are we missing?

Hi fgil12,

Can you check whether you have activated your categories? There is a parameter available in the categories form that you need to tick before you can actually use categories.

Hi fgil12,

Please check whether the category is assigned to the project. When the category is assigned to project then the same can be used across the project module.

Hi Narayan

Yes, category is assigned to the project. In fact, if we try to assign the category in AOT, we get a message saying type for category is incorrect. We have configured different categories, with different transaction types for the category groups, but still no result.

Which parameter do you refer to? We have checked the "Can be used in Project" option in the Shared categories form, and the only other checks we find are the ones under Set up category, in the Project categories form. Are there other options we are missing?

Do these categories show up on the appropriate data entry journal?

It sounds like your project category setup is not correct. You cannot use categories on a WBS task which are not active in journals or are marked as Estimate, Indirect Cost, Subscription.

La solucion es mucho más facil de lo que piensas, AX 2012 solo sporta categorias de tipo hora para el WBS, entonces si no has creado una combinacion de categoria compartida, grupo de categorias, categoria de proyecto que tengo como tipo horas no podras ver nada en el dropdown de las tareas del WBS, para que te aparescan asegurate de crear una categoria con item type = horas en esos tres lugares y veras como ya te aparece en el WBS.

Donde si puedes ver todos los tipos de categoria de un proyecto es en el detalle de costos de la tarea, ahi veras todos los tipos de cateogrias que tengas creados. Los diferntes tipos son horas, articulos, gasto, y "fee" tarifas.
