  • can i start the code upgrade without having the upgrade project created ? uploading the model store to lcs code upgrade service and start the upgrade ?
  • do i need to install any hotfix for code upgrade  ? am on CU13 (am sure i need to install hotfixes for data upgrade but do i need for code upgrade sicne am on CU 13 )

    HI Mohammad,

You don't get the upgrade methadology . Have you signed up for a Lifecycle Services trial or partner project?

Just create a D365FO project in LCS, and you will find the code upgrade tool there.

Thank you Nikolaos, so  i can just provision my  D365FFO on-prem environment and proceed with the code upgrade  with no need of the code upgrade methodology project ?

Yes, and you don't even need to provision the actual on-prem environments (sandbox / prod on Service Fabric). You only need onebox dev system(s) to start with the code upgrade. The dev systems can be hosted in Azure or locally - but they are not actual "on-prem" systems.

    Thanks a lot Nikolaos,

yes i have already downloaded a VM to do the development and the upgrade on it, one more question please do i need a build server to create a deployable package ? or i can create from this local VM?

    Thank you,

Yes, you should have a build server to create deployable packages that you deploy to test / prod.

You can create deployable packages also on Visual Studio on the dev system but you shouldn't do that.

By using build server you ensure that only code that is in source control is included in the deployable package.

So, please set up a build server, too.

    Hi Nikolaos,

one quick question please, for on-premises license, does the customer need to upgrade their ax 2012 licenses? or just need to purchase the on-premises licenses where the on-premises project will be automatically provisioned ?

    Thank you,

I think it's good to ask this directly from Microsoft, or your lisence vendor to get an official answer. I think you can convert existing licenses but not sure. And you can use your old AX2012 with the new licenses for the duration of the upgrade project.
