Export all Data Projects as a TABLE - not the projects themselves

Posted on by 285

Hello Dynamics Professionals,

Trying to better understand the clients data projects and what projects are in use, business owners, entities being used, etc. My question: is there a way to export the All Data Projects table from the DM workspace? Again please note: just the table - not the projects themselves. Also is there a way to see the user who created the data project originally? I am aware you can view "Created by" at the job history level.

Please also vote for my D365 Idea: View obsolete data entities in all data projects. In its current interation you must drill down to each individual data project to identify and locate an obsolete data entity.

Thanks,

Johnny

You can use Templates in Data Management workspace to export and import data project definitions between environments. You can also create templates from existing data project.

    Hi Ada,

I need to export the projects also (not only data projects as tables) so that it works as it is from where it was exported.

    How can I do that?

    This worked perfectly.

    Hi Johnny,
You can use DataManagementDefinitionGroupDetailEntity for exporting all the data entities in DMF projects. The "DEFINITIONGROUPID" field is the project name.

To tell whether a entity is obsolete or not, you can extend DataManagementDefinitionGroupDetailEntity to add the IsObsolete field from DMFEntity table to the fields of DataManagementDefinitionGroupDetailEntity, so that this field can be exported.

I don't have a system at hand but I think there is a data entity for the data projects. If you have Visual Studio, try to find that table from AOT (by looking at the data sources of the data management workspace form), then right click - Find references. Do you see any data entities (DataEntityView)?

As for CreatedBy, if it's not already enabled for the data project table, you can enable it with table extension.
