Workflow editor crashes

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi

Since I have upgraded my test environment to CU8, I'm not able to edit or create a workflow.

It seems like AX fails to open the workflow editor.

The message I receive when I create a new workflow :

an unexpected error has occurred while opening the workflow. See the event log on the AOS and contact your system administrator to resolve it.

When I try to edit a workflow, AX crashes.

I compiled the application, I compiled CIL twice.

Any clue ?

OK. I found the problem, but not the solution.

The problem is the client. It works from another machine. I already reinstalled the client on the machine and it did not fix the issue. It means that one of the prerequisites is the issue. I reinstalled most of them.

Any clue which prerequisite or external component is involved when using the workflow editor ?

(Sorry it took a long time to point out that the client was the issue, this is because I'm using the DEMO Contoso VM and I had only the machine A. Therefore, I had to deploy a second machine to make that test.)

You can find out the Workflow webservice, if you review the AIF inbound port form

on this form you will find the services in use by Dynamics AX for workflow

Please verify and update us with your fidnings

I will give it another try.

    XPPCompile

    AOS Restart

    CIL Full Compile.

    WCF Refresh.

Will let you know if it still crash.

Question : If a WCF refresh if recommended, does it mean the a web service is involved ? If so, which one, maybe it is stopped

I had a very similar issue. Couldn't open any workflow for edit. I went and xpp-compiled all the sysworkflow-classes, and it worked. I can see that you have already tried compiling the application, so my solution probably wont do it for you.

    Hi Matt.

Please refresh you client's WCF settings via Start -> Control Panel -> System Admin -> Microsoft Dynamics AX COnfiguration.

(also ensure that a full CIL completed after upgrading)
