Hi all, please could someone giver me some pointers. I have installed Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5 SP1 update 2 on a windows 7 machine. installs without issues. I open up the application and start entering the server details and go to locate the database (from here it starts to hang) and it is extremely slow! it takes around 2-3 min. just to enter the navigation menu and to try and click a function or enter a module is even slower. Tried, re installing, .Net files versions, not sure what to do... HELP... :-) Thanks Gino

Just a guess: Could it be your antivirus software? Deactivate it temporarily, just as a test.

    Thank you for the comment.

I wish it was the antivirus (I tried) I even completely uninstalled Symantec from the desktop.

To go around the problem, we have loaded users with Citrix Client  as we use it as an access for our remote users/sites. (it runs perfectly and under Windows Server 2008)

No such luck with desktop client on windows 7.

Ehm... it means you tried to connect to the DB directly over Internet? I am not surprised it took so long time...

    Hi,

No, I am not trying to connect to NAV via the internet. (that will be ridicules) :-)

In the local office (Server room is 20m from us), I load the client on a machine, on the local LAN.

Citrix is used by remote site (works fast) and no issues.

Just the local LAN connection via the desktop client is slow as a snail.

    I enter the necessary information

    Server name

    Database name

    Windows Authentication

I click ok, to load company, it takes 5-7min to get the company up. which doesn't make any sense to me.

Than try to force to use TCP/IP protocol (second tab on the open DB dialog). ON some older Windows there was needed to update MS DAO components to latest version, but it should not be problem with Win7. May be you can check the network connection with something like wireshark or netmonitor.

I wanted to provide an additional update that the Version 5.00 SP1 Update 2 was followed by additional Hotfixes. You may want to review the additional details on Customer Source for additional releases of Hotfixes that may help in managing performance issues.

    mbs.microsoft.com/.../nav500sp1platformhotfixoverview.htm

The latest build is 33335. You may want to test this build in a test environment to see if performance improvements occur.

    I hope this helps.
