Advice on environments and development

Our client is migrating to Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations (D365 F&O) from AX 2012.

Could you please assist me with the following points and recommend the best practices?

1. Our vendor created multiple models, but after reviewing discussions and blogs, I received suggestions recommending the maintenance of a single model for all development, instead of having multiple models to avoid potential issues.
If opting for a single model is considered a better solution, please provide guidance on how we can seamlessly merge them, and what complexities we may encounter during the merging process.

2. What is the optimal method for code migration between different environments (Automated process)?
DEV to TEST
TEST to UAT
UAT to PROD

3. We like  seamlessly push and pull data between Dynamics 365 F&O and CRM, vice versa. what is the best approach

4. We also intend to efficiently exchange data between Dynamics 365 F&O and third-party applications in an on-premises environment, vice versa. hat is the best approach

5. With 500 employees, providing mobile devices for all users using PowerApps is cost-prohibitive. What alternative solutions do you recommend?

6. Please suggest best practices for code development, integration and other best practices we need follow

7. In which layer we need to development ?

Thank you

    Advice on environments and development
    Hi kvnkk,

Martin provided already a valuable reply. I have some additional thoughts on your first question.

A vendor might have reasons to provide multiple models in case they sell them as separate components. ISV companies can also provide multiple models in case they have some basic shared components that will be reused in several different solutions. In case a client needs customizations, then it doesn't make sense to have a model per requirement.

Martin is correct about creating new questions for your questions 3-5. In general Dual Write is an option for the integration between F&O and CE apps, but it all depends on additional detailed requirements.

Need an advice on D365 Finance and Operations Environment and development
    1. Not making it more complex than necessary is a good idea. If you have a reason to keep some parts of your solution separated, you can use multiple packages, but if you have no such an intention, it would just make everything more complicated.
Merging it not difficult, especially if you haven't anything deployed to test environments.

    2. Use automated builds to create a deployable package. Then you can upload it to LCS and apply to environments, or automated this step as well. Don't forget that there is documentation available.

3.-5. Please create new threads for these questions. We can't discuss everything in a single thread and this isn't related to the previous questions.

    6. This is an extremely wide topic as well; there are whole books on integration design alone. But there surely are documentation pages and other resources to help you, such as Best Practices for Microsoft Dynamics AX Development or Design principles and best practices for data entities.

    7. Layers are no relevant important anymore, simply use the most logical one to avoid confusion. If you're an end-user, use CUS (customer) layer.
Note that layers are not relevant because code is not changed anymore by overlayering. Extensions are used instead. If you aren't aware of extensions and you want to do development in F&O, learning it should be one of your first steps.
