NAV performance over VPN connection??

We will be implementing NAV here in the US, but will have some users in the UK.  We plan to user windows terminal services and connect them via VPN. Does anyone have similar experience and know how performance is?

VPN is very slow. You might want to use terminal server or Citrix. A more cost effective alternative is using RDP.

I think he means that VPN will be used to establish network path to Terminal Server.

We are currently in the same boat as most of you folks.  However we have chosen to use VPN only instead of using our Terminal Server.  We want to have the nice Outlook integration but do not want to put the burden of large email OSTs on our Terminal Server.  While it does not run as snappy as through a Terminal Server environment it is fast enough for most of what we need to do with it.

Does anyone have a reliability reason to not run it via VPN instead of TS?  I don't want to be doing something dangerous with our data.

We are a US company using NAV 5.1 across multiple locations, although not internationally. We have 14 locations which are connected over our WAN and for these we use only Windows Terminal Services (I would recommend moving to Windows Server 2008 for this). Performance for these locations is very good.

We also have some 10-15 remote users who make connection over a VPN. Their performance varies mostly due to the bandwidth of their connection. Performance is good enough for most day to day NAV work (order entry, etc.).We try to keep them away from running long reports or posting large batches. They also log into a Terminal Server after making the VPN connection.

The only area where performance is so poor that it is unusable is for broadband connections. We have some mobile users who have tried using laptops with broadband cards but they have all given up.

Thanks for you feedback.  We're going with the Terminal Services option.

     Thanks again for your insights.
