Caching in Dynamics 365 Portal

Hi,

I have a question about the caching in Dynamics 365 Portals. I've noticed that sometimes it can take a while before the record or the change of a record is visible in Dynamics and sometimes it's there immediately. I've also noticed that it's visible after clearing the cache. But this isn't a solution for me because I can't keep clearing the cache manually all the time.

I've also read a thread where they said that you have to enable change tracking for the entity. I've tried this (and clearing the cache again) but unfortunately this didn't resolve the issue.

Does anyone have an idea if it's possible to make sure that the cache is cleared every 15/30 min automatically? I couldn't find anything online or I didn't search for it in the proper way.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Fouad Kada

RE: Caching in Dynamics 365 Portal

    Hi Fouad,

For changes made to the portals, it can take up to 15 minutes for the changes to get reflected on the portal. Which means to say, it can take a maximum of 15 minutes for the automatic cache refresh.

By clearing the portals cache manually the changes will be reflected immediately. Please refer the following article which has the details : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/portals/admin/clear-server-side-cache

You can also refer to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/portals/faq#portal-checker for more information on this, under the title 'Portal isn't displaying updated data from Common Data Service environment'.

    Shaina

RE: Caching in Dynamics 365 Portal

    Hi Shaina,

Thank you for your quick reply. However I have situations where it takes more than 1 day to get the data from CDS displayed on the portal. And that's unfortunately a little bit too long.

I hope that you can help!

    Thanks in advance.

RE: Caching in Dynamics 365 Portal

    Hello Fouad,

Portal platfrom are getting more robust day by day, clearing cache manually are definetly not an option (also not available for all entities) and its slow down the portal and reverse impact on usablity for portal users, it can be the option if you are in Dev or Sandbox environemnt. may I asked which entity you are facing this issue? or it comman for all entities? anything like 1 day is not acceptable, please raise support ticket immediatlly without killing time.

If you run the Portal checker (self-service diagnostic) tool, it will list down Object Type code of all the entities that are referenced on portal in entity list or entity forms and web forms and aren't enabled for change tracking. Browse your metadata by using the steps mentioned at Browse the metadata for your organization.

Apart from each entity being enabled for change tracking, organizations on a whole have to be enabled for change tracking as well. An organization is enabled for change tracking when a portal provisioning request is submitted. However, this can break if an organization is restored from an old database or reset. To fix this issue:

    1. Open Power Apps Portals admin center.
    2. In the Portal Details tab, select Off from the Portal State list.
    3. Select Update.
    4. Select On from the Portal State list.
    5. Select Update. The portal restarts and can now make the authentication connection.

    Best of Luck !!
