NAV Server Instance Configuration Question - How Many Users Per instance?

(0) ShareShare

Hey guys,

Quick questions about the setup and configuration of my NAV server instances...

- How many users will an instance support?

I've tried to do some manual load balancing by creating 3 instances, and separating 30 users across these 3.  But as they are on the same single physical server, I'm wondering is it having any affect?

The server is a Windows Azure VM, Xeon 2.4 Dual CPU, with 14GB RAM and 28GB SSD.

- Can I just reduce this to one Instance and connect all users to that, and save myself extra admin headache?

Thanks in advance,

Kind Regards

Dieter

    Dieter,

If you have only 30 users you don't need three separate instance, one instance would be enough. I am not sure if there is a standard recommendation, but having 50-60 users per instance would be good.  If you are using Job queue NAS do create a separate instance for it.

Based on usage and configuration it will vary , you can check an example they referred in this blog

    Hi Dieter,

Typically recommend 70-80 users per instance

The generaly recommended formula  is as :

10-15 Dynamics NAV users per processor core / logic processor

    96-128MB of memory per user.

Have a look at this thread. This topic is discussed in details.

    hi,

Depends on the traffic, personally i prefer "divide et impera" scenarios: more NAV Servers and more NAS Server

    from my experience i suggest:

40/50 max users per single NAV server instance for NAV 2013, 60 max users for NAV 2016 and 75 max users for NAV 2017, Azure Cloud etc.  ...Microsoft is working to improve this feature.

two nice posts about NAV\SQL config

take a look here about perfomance tuning
