I found this video about Updated developer experience in D365FO, https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/2019-Microsoft-Business/Microsoft-Dynamics-365-for-Finance-and-Operations-Updated/m-p/299814
And one of the things mentioned in this video is that it should be possible to install Visual Studio 2019 one your own machine, and then install some tool that would allow you to use this machine to develop for D365FO.
This was supposed to have been released to public preview with release wave 2 (October 2019), but I have not been able to find any further mention of this project.
Does anyone have any news about this? (Perhaps Joris de Gruyter might be able to tell us more)
Check this yammer thread https://www.yammer.com/dynamicsaxfeedbackprograms/#/Threads/show?threadId=718740152180736 it's under private preview so I cannot say anything, but it talks about 2017 VS availability and there are several thread on yammer discussing 2019 as well.
I just got accepted to the Yammer group, but now when i follow the link its says "This conversation is private, or it's been deleted."
Hi Rudi,
The announcement is in the private Preview Early Access Program PEAP group. If you don't have access, you can get access by becoming a Dynamics Insider on experience.dynamics.com or wait for a short time. I do expect a public announcement soon.
If you are not patient, you can follow the instructions provided by Ariste with a workaround: ariste.info/.../
The "local development" feature as we call it, had several setbacks. We ended up taking it off the roadmap because pushing the date out every month is worse than not having a date at all.
But, we have not stopped working on this feature. I'm hoping to be able to provide an official update on this in the next few months, as we're gaining a clearer picture of where we are for a preview. Stay tuned.
Hi Joris.
Was there ever any news about this?
Currently, Microsoft Supports Visual Studio 2017. Step-by-step there will be a move to more recent version(s).
Hi André, yes I know that, perhaps I should have been more clear.
I was more interested in knowing if the was any news about the "local development" feature Joris was talking about.
our code is pretty much done but there's more water under the bridge prior to releasing this. We're planning to do a private preview. I suggest following the Dev ALM group on Yammer as that's where I'll let anyone know when we're ready for a preview program.
