Hi,

I am using the inventory adjustment journal to issue an item which has a weigted average cost. When posting the journal , the GL is not updated. This is not the case for the movement journal.

Is there a settings to be done?

    Hi Tulika,

There should not be a difference when you post using the adjustment or the movement journal. Did you use the same item? It can be item related.

As André says, there should be no difference. The only difference is that you can manually specify an offset account on a Movement Journal. On an Inventory adjustment, the accounts on the item's Item Group are always used.

If the G/L is not updated after posting an inventory adjustment, it could be that the item had no value when the journal was posted. On one of the Journal lines, hit Inventory -> Transactions. Then do Ledger -> 'Financial voucher'. Here, you can see how the GL was updated.

    Hi Andre & Guy

It is actually the same item.   Actually, for the movement journal, the cost price display zero but the posting is done at the WAC. For the inventory journal, the cost price displays zero and the posting is done at zero

We just found that we needed to flag the ‘Update latest cost’. This displays the latest cost on the inventory journal  form. However , the issue was done at weighted average cost.

Is this the way it works?

    Hi Tulika,

With any of the actual costing methods, ALL issues are done at the current running average cost price (unless inventory marking is being used). So the cost on the journal is ignored (and that is why you can't enter a manual cost on the journal if the Qty is negative)

If you see differences between the posting of a movement journal and an inventory adjustment, I'd assume it was because they were done at different times (it can be that the running average cost of an item in inventory is zero).

Of course, these costs and postings will get adjusted to an actual cost by inventory close.
