Is it supported to host the AOS on a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Server Core setup?

Hi,

I’m building our production environment and I need to know if it is supported (by Microsoft) to install the AOS (only, no database or client) on a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server that was setup in a “Server Core” installation mode.

I was able to confirm from various sources that the SQL 2008 database server is *not* supported on Server Core installations, but there is no specific information on Server Core hosting the AOS.

If it is not supported, I'm curious to know the reason why, and whether it will be supported in the future.  The reason I am interested in hosting the AOS on a Server Core setup is because I want to minimize the amount of software installed on our production servers so that the performance is optimized and the attack surface is minimized.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Our Dynamics AX consultants referred the question to Microsoft and MS replied stating "The Windows core mode is not supported on any Dynamics AX platforms and we have currently no plans to support it."

No question that it is not supported. If it's not in the system requirements or installation documentation, it means it's not supported.

However, the question is, does it work and can one make it work?

(like installing AX on Windows 7... not supported, but works perfectly)
