Hi all

Am trying to understand the difference between posting and printing collection letters, there is an explanation on TechNet: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa549067.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

but reading that I am still not clear. Can anybody summarise clearly for me?

    Hi PamReay, here some hints.

    1) Specify when collection letters are posted (posting vs. printout) asks you to define when a specific collection letter code will be updated.

Example: A customer has only one single invoice outstanding. If you select "printout" and print the collection letter in order to sent it to your customer, your customer will receive collection letter no. 1. With the printout the collection letter sequence code of your open invoice transaction is updated and the next time you print a collection letter, the customer receives collection letter no. 2 and so on.

    2) If you specify "posting" instead of "printout" after you print and sent the collection letter code to your customer basically nothing happens. You can printout the collection letter as often as you want and you will always get a document that says "collection letter no 1". In order to print the second collection letter you actually have to post the collection letter to update the collection letter code of your outstanding transaction. (please check the customer transaction window to identify the current collection letter code)

    3) Posting collection letters is not an issue as long as you do not have collection letter fees setup. That is because you need to cleanse those fees if customers do not pay. AX offers you some automatic function to cleanse the collection letter fees in case customers do not pay, yet, it is still an additional process step required.

    Hope it helps,

    Ludwig

Thanks Ludwig, I understand now - we currently use printout in AX4.0 and just migrating to AX2012 so I think we also want printout again. Many thanks
